About The Nursing Nurse

Hi! I’m Janae McShain and I’m the founder of The Nursing Nurse, LLC.

I am a Registered Nurse and Certified Lactation Counselor. The Nursing Nurse, LLC is a lactation consultancy that provides education and in-home support services. My main focus is supporting moms in Philadelphia and I am conveniently close to the surrounding Montgomery County area.

My RN career began as a Medical-Surgical Nurse at Einstein Medical Center in Philadelphia and I’ve worked overseas at the Cleveland Clinic of Abu Dhabi in the United Arab Emirates. We welcomed our firstborn into the world while overseas! After 10 years in the acute care field, I became a certified lactation counselor in 2018 and transitioned to providing lactation support. The Nursing Nurse brand was established in August 2019 in recognizing that to nurse is more than just to breastfeed. To nurse is to hold closely and care for another, to provide comfort. And so while I aim to promote and encourage breastfeeding, more importantly, I support and educate mothers so that their nursing journey is a secure, safe and bonded experience between mother and baby. As much as possible, I support human milk provision to happen directly at the breast in supporting that bonded experience. Simultaneously, breastfeeding is not “one size fits all” and there are alternatives that will often support a positive dynamic for human milk provision in infancy - be it by breast, bottle, pumping or donor milk. I am here for this too!

I’ve breastfed two children and these experiences both abroad and stateside have deeply impacted my desire to support other mothers. Especially in recognizing the importance of community and social supports in birthing and raising children. These supports around a mother are pivitol in setting up for success on a breastfeeding journey.

My office and event space in East Oak Lane, The Lactation Lounge, is host to our breastfeeding courses, monthly breastfeeding support groups, as well as a pop up boutique for preloved infant and children’s apparel and goods! I am also available for in-home postpartum breastfeeding support and latch assessments.

I have a huge heart for the city of Philadelphia and this little grassroots community-based consultancy was born to see to Philly being all the stronger. Because empowered mothers make for stronger communities, a stronger city. It is my vision to support women in being Mighty in their Motherhood, I often refer to my clients as Mighty Mamas.
